Composition begun by early 1932. According to "The Symphony: A Listener's Companion" and also Schaarwächter (Two Centuries of British Symphonism, pp.725-29) it was in fact already sketched in 1931-32 besides. Concluded in 1934 according to Schaarwächter, p.726.
